Are jury trials necessary for civil cases?

I was reading the 7th Amendment and I know this is going to be on my test but I don't really get it. Can someone explain it to me?

Jury trial is not necessary for civil cases because the disputes are between individuals or business entities that has no direct effect with the general public.
